Description
the hangman’s soliloquy
Herman Ingram thinks the worst is over. He’s dead wrong.
In the aftermath of his run-in with QNI, Herman is reeling. Desperate to find some measure of peace, he retreats into isolation. With his mental health deteriorating, he falls into a spiral of paranoia and depression. Then, an unexpected face emerges—Greg Schultz. A former QNI executive, Schultz brings a chilling proposition to Herman: document his mission to destroy QNI’s remaining facilities.
Initially, Herman perceives Schultz as a deeply troubled, unstable man. Despite this, Herman sympathizes with the man’s motivation. However, there is dissent within Schultz’s team. The brutal murder of two of Schultz’s scouts raises suspicions that there’s a traitor among their ranks. While he realizes this is possible, Herman thinks it likely that QNI is behind it, eager to protect their interests.
Battling his own demons, Herman finds himself back in a deadly game he thought he’d left behind. As the cracks in Schultz’s sanity grow more apparent, so do the stakes. When more members of the team suffer premature ends, Herman’s mission becomes survival. Realizing every ally is a potential enemy, he sets off to find the truth and end the bloodshed.

Tim Sanders –
A highly enjoyable follow-up to Jeb Bohn’s Bermuda.
This book is a direct sequel, a fact that I was a little iffy on at first. I enjoy series but have had less than enjoyable experiences with sequels. Luckily, aside from continuing the story, The Hangman’s Soliloquy doesn’t come off as a “standard” sequel.
With the events of Bermuda done, Herman Ingram returns home and falls into a lull. After being involved in such a huge undertaking, his life feels empty and he struggles with depression and anxiety. This leads him down a dark path that reunites him with an old friend.
The Tall Man, Bermuda’s surprise protagonist, returns, making an affable inclusion into Herman’s life and story. He has been approached by Greg Schultz, a man who worked for QNI (Bermuda’s antagonist corporation) and is now bent on destroying what’s left of the company. Schultz is battling his own demons which leaves his mission in jeopardy.
Not content to let their business be crippled, QNI’s remaining executives hire a man to protect their investments, a man whose past is muddy. As in Bermuda, bodies start mounting and the stakes are raised, leading to a final showdown.
While I don’t feel this book is quite as good as its predecessor, I couldn’t justify rating it lower because it’s still a highly enjoyable ride. I like Mr. Bohn’s style and his portrayal of the characters, both of which serve the story well. I see he has published a third entry, so I know what I’ll be reading next.
